The main physicochemical properties: round white tablets with a flat surface, with a chamfer and a line or without a line.
Pharmacotherapeutic group. Antihistamines for systemic use.
Clinical characteristics.
Indication.
Symptomatic treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria and allergic rhinitis.
Contraindication.
The drug is contraindicated in patients with increased sensitivity to the active substance or to any other component of the drug.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
When used simultaneously with alcohol, the effects of loratadine do not increase, which is confirmed by studies of psychomotor function.
A potential interaction may occur with the use of all known inhibitors of CYP3A4 or CYP2D6, leading to increased levels of loratadine, which in turn may be the cause of an increased frequency of adverse reactions.
An increase in the concentration of loratadine in the blood plasma was reported after simultaneous use with ketoconazole, erythromycin and cimetidine, which was not accompanied by clinically significant changes (including on the ECG).
Children. Studies of interactions with other drugs were conducted only with the participation of adult patients.
Method of application and dosage.
Orally. Tablets can be used regardless of meals.
Adults and children over 12 years of age should take 1 tablet (10 mg of loratadine) once a day.
For children aged 2 to 12 years, the dosage depends on body weight. Children with a body weight of more than 30 kg: 10 mg (1 tablet) once a day. Children with a body weight of less than 30 kg should use loratadine in the form of syrup.
Elderly patients. No dose adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Patients with impaired liver function. Patients with severe liver dysfunction should be prescribed the drug in a lower initial dose, since they may have a decrease in the clearance of loratadine. For adults and children weighing more than 30 kg, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg every other day.
Patients with impaired renal function. No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired renal function.
Children.
The effectiveness and safety of the use of loratadine in children under 2 years of age has not been established.
The drug Loratadine, tablets, should be prescribed to children with a body weight of more than 30 kg.
Expiry date. 4 years.
Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.
Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not higher than 25 ºС.
